about

When coming home for visits between college semesters at UNB (Brasília University), Valéria would spend afternoons at her mother's house noodling away on her guitar. Dona Marlene loved tending to the plants in the house, with special attention being paid to her ferns - which were all the rage in middle-class Brazilian households. It was on one of these afternoons, playing around with chords and a melody as her mom watered her ferns, that the song's opening lines emerged: "Ferns and leaves, nighttime air invades the sky..."

lyrics

Samambaias e avencas
O ar da noite invade o céu
Nas ruas brilham luas de neon
Esse tom rouco e macio
Me entrego à noite em desvarios
Teu calor, teu calor

São tuas as artimanhas
Essência mista de hortelã
Envolta fico em teu olhar de avelã
Faça meu o teu segredo
Te enlaço, perco o sentido
Teu sabor, meu vestido ...

Esse tom rouco e macio
Me entrego a noite em desvarios
Teu calor, teu calor
São tuas as artimanhas
Essência mista de hortelã
A noite despe o escuro em amanhã.
